Formed in Helsinki in 2016, Chalice have developed their own take on esoteric heavy metal through a demo, two EPs and their 2020 debut Trembling Crown. Featuring current and former members of Ranger, Satan’s Fall and Vincent Revenge, the band return with their second full-length, Divine Spear.
Built around classic European heavy metal, Divine Spear incorporates progressive and cinematic elements alongside a distinctly Finnish sense of melancholy. The songs move between heavier passages and quieter, cleaner sections, giving the album a strong sense of dynamics and atmosphere while allowing the songwriting to unfold gradually.
