THECODONTION

Thecodontion started in 2016 from an idea of G.D. and G.E.F., aiming to create an extreme metal project marked by the lack of guitars. Infact, the band uses only distorted basses in place of guitars, and this approach is complimented by their lyrical themes, centered about prehistory, fossils and paleontology. After the release of their first demo “Thecodontia” (2018), the band started to capture the attention of extreme metal underground fans and zines. Furthermore, since the end of 2018, Thecodontion has reinforced their lineup, also featuring V.P. (drums) and L.S. (second bass) in order to play live shows. At a later time, the band released the EP “Jurassic” (2019), keeping the approach between war metal and grindcore that can also be heard on the first demo.

In 2020 the band released their first album, “Supercontinent”, shifting towards a more death metal direction, with mature and experimental elements and a more sophisticated songwriting, followed by a couple of splits with Vessel of Iniquity and Ceremented. At the moment, the band is working on new material, including a CD compilation of “Thecodontia” and “Jurassic” that will be published in 2025.

The band has played with several international acts, such as Bedsore, Antropofagus, Mortuary Drape, Dead Congregation and Fleshcrawl, among others. Thecodontion also took part in 2023 edition of Frantic Fest, sharing the stage with I Am Morbid, Asphyx, Artificial Brain and more. In 2024, the band has toured out of the Italian borders for the first time, playing Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania along with UK progressive death metal band Atvm.
