The debut EP from Chilean band LEX TALIONIS showcases a raw, primitive, and first-wave black/speed metal sound, absolutely faithful to the genre’s most savage traditions. Critics immediately highlighted its old-school approach, with a clear heritage from early black metal and the most aggressive thrash of the 80s, executed without artifice or overproduction. The EP’s sound is direct and stripped down, supported by razor-sharp riffs, martial drums, and a thick, prominent bass that adds extra weight to the overall sound. The compositions maintain a balance between immediate brutality and more epic moments, especially in the closing track, “The Initiation,” which serves as an expansive and atmospheric finale without abandoning the raw edge. The production is deliberately austere, using only guitar overdubs and vocal reverb to reinforce the ritualistic and violent feel of the work. A brief but powerful debut that captures the most primitive and ferocious essence of black/speed metal.
